Marie Saavedra, an accomplished American journalist, currently reports for CBS News in Chicago. She grew up in Evanston and graduated from the Missouri School of Journalism. Saavedra started her career as an anchor and reporter at KYTV in Springfield, Missouri, where she covered major events, including the aftermath of the 2011 EF-5 tornado in Joplin.
Her outstanding reporting earned her a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award. She then moved to KTVK in Phoenix, where she covered a wide range of topics from immigration to wildfires. Saavedra spent seven years at WFAA in Dallas, earning Regional Emmys for her feature stories and live reports on the 2016 Dallas police ambush.
